Cultural Connections: A High Tea Affair presented by Guest Lecturers Professor Linda Slack-Smith and Director of Aboriginal Health Strategy Melinda Robinson

Join us at the Pagoda Ballroom (Pagoda Resort & Spa) for this high tea event leading into Reconciliation Week 2024. Lectures will focus on the ADC Competency Standard Cultural Safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and include presentations from Professor Linda Slack-Smith, a social epidemiologist focused on oral health disparities and Mel Robinson, Director of Aboriginal Health Strategy at the Child and Adolescent Health Service.

2pm Professor Linda Slack-Smith - Equity and Oral Health: Evidence, Challenges and Values

Learning outcomes:

  • Describe how many groups are worse off for dental access and oral health
  • Explore issues around this including social determinants, power, structural issues
  • Identify ways forward in terms of understanding, inter-professional practice, holding structural and power issues to account

3pm Director of Aboriginal Health Strategy Melinda Robinson - Aboriginal Cultural Safety

Learning outcomes:

  • Introduction to Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week.
  • Overview of cultural safety and practical skills on how to apply cultural safety into everyday work and life.
